The Best Social-Distanced Experience At Harry’s Dolce Vita

The Best Social-Distanced Experience At Harry’s Dolce Vita

So last week, we were invited to try Harry’s Dolce Vita. If you haven’t heard of this restaurant yet, they always have the most Instagrammable displays outside (plus it’s right next to Harrods in Knightsbridge London!)

Harry’s Dolce Vita is a delicious Italian restaurant where you can also dine al fresco. We loved the beautiful interiors here and the service was exceptionally warm and friendly. In particular, we were impressed by the social distancing they had in place. There were hand sanitisers outside the restaurant and in the entrance area as well as another on each table too. They also had packaged face masks at the entrance in case you needed one. Upon entering, your temperature is also checked. All the wait staff also wore face masks at all times. We felt very reassured that they were doing everything they could to keep everyone safe and happy.

We started off with some O’Ndina Gin cocktails. Mine had pretty strawberries and blueberries in too!

For our starters, we chose the black truffle taglioli which was completely out of this world. We both loved it so much and would get this again if we went back. We also had burrata with 24 month aged prosciutto which was perfectly creamy and also delicious.

We then moved onto the mains. There was not a morsel of food remaining on our plates. It was that good. We chose the Frutti di Mare which was this gorgeous seafood platter. It included lobster, squid, prawns, clams and mussels. I was so happy because the seafood was incredibly fresh and perfectly cooked.

We also chose another dish from the black truffle menu which was the truffle pizza. The truffle shavings on top were super generous and a delight to the tastebuds.

Of course, our visit to Harry’s Dolce Vita would not be complete without trying their famous toadstool dessert which is made with white chocolate, parfait and pistachios. It was as delicious as it was beautiful. If you visit Harry’s, you definitely need to order this!

I was gifted this meal to try Harry’s Dolce Vita, but all opinions are my own.

TOP 3 EASY WAYS TO OVERCOME THE NEED FOR PERFECTION

TOP 3 EASY WAYS TO OVERCOME THE NEED FOR PERFECTION

The more I go through life, the more I’m realising that the biggest thing holding me back is perfection.  (But what even is perfection anyway?!)

Seems like it was always there, I just didn’t know how extreme it was!  I was never happy with my schoolwork.  Always striving to make it better.  Always striving for 100/100 and A+.  First of all, you might be thinking that there’s nothing wrong with this.  Generally speaking, I’m here to tell you that when you got it bad, it can actually paralyse you from creating anything.

Above all, when I realised I had this problem, I found myself “procrastinating“.  As a result, cleaning the house until it looked spotless became more of a priority than actual work.  Doing things in a certain order became my nemesis.  “I can’t move onto the next thing on my to-do list until I’ve done this thing”.

So how can you overcome this perfection paralysis?  Glad you asked.

    1. PRIORITISE PROGRESS OVER PERFECTION

This is so important!  Far too often, I am so bogged down in things being 100% perfect, that I miss the bigger picture.  As a result, making something as perfect as possible becomes the goal for me, rather than the actual result of the task.  For this reason, I end up taking sometimes more than 3x longer to complete a task.

The key is to prioritise the task at hand rather than focusing on it being perfect.  Therefore, some flaws + productivity is better than perfection + missed deadlines!

    2. BE OKAY WITH MISTAKES

I find that with every single thing I do, I am so ashamed if it’s not perfect (in my eyes).  Or if there are mistakes.  But this wastes so much mental energy!  Instead, realising that there is no such thing as perfection, will encourage you to just live your life.  Making mistakes only means we are human.  So embrace those imperfections and mistakes!  (And of course, learn from them for next time!) I wrote more about this here.

    3. EMBRACE CRITICISM OFF-THE-CUFF

This is a huge one for me.  Learning to finally be okay with other people’s criticisms was what helped me to overcome the need to be perfect.  Not only did I realise that sometimes, other people’s opinions are just other people’s opinions.  But I learnt to not take it personally.  See it for what it is.  Sometimes, people will offer constructive criticism.  In which case, you can take it on board to improve your work.  And sometimes, the criticism is just because that person feels the need to bring you down.  It’s still not personal.  Remember that.  People who love to criticise and bring others down will always be that way.  And they’re like that with all the people in their life, not just you.

So there you have it.  The top 3 ways I’m managing my need for perfection in a healthy way!  Do you have any other tips or can you relate to what I’ve written?  Let me know in the comments below!

HOW TO HAVE THE BEST TIME EVER THIS SUMMER

HOW TO HAVE THE BEST TIME EVER THIS SUMMER
    Pin this image on Pinterest

I’ve been absolutely loving this Summer heatwave in the UK these past couple of months and I personally hope it never stops!  Taking full advantage of the heat, I’ve actually visited 3 beaches so far this summer, which is definitely a personal record for me.

The biggest challenge I face when I go to beaches, especially those with fairground rides, is that I have to resign myself to the fact that my camera has better eyesight than I do (…bear with me on this.)

Sometimes if I want to admire things in the distance, I have to use my camera to zoom in to get a better look (I can’t be the only one who does this?)  And it’s even worse when I’m going on fairground rides and I can’t really see what’s going on and can’t fully enjoy myself as it’s all one big blur.

Through inconvenience and slight vanity (but mostly vanity), I choose not to wear glasses.

So last week, we ventured down to Bournemouth seafront to visit my fiance’s sister for her son’s first birthday party.  I was totally mesmerised by all the bright colours of the seaside fairground rides and was seriously so grateful that I was able to absorb it all (at least visually) thanks to my new Focus Dailies contact lenses.

My only previous experience with contacts were Korean circle lenses which I can say are not the most comfortable.  Plus, they were yearly contacts.  Can you imagine how I managed to re-use the same contacts over and over for a year?!  As you probably already know, I’m a bit of a germophobe and I’m so glad I have found these Focus Dailies contactsp that you can dispose of after each single daily use.

The Focus Dailies are so comfortable, I literally didn’t even remember they were there.  And I can safely say, I thoroughly enjoyed myself without needing to worry about any glasses falling off my face when going on the rides!

In case you were wondering, I got my Focus Dailies from Vision Direct which offers next day delivery (hands up my last minute peeps!)  I’m a sucker for great deals and bargains and not only do Vision Direct offer better value than high street opticians, they also carry the same brands as high street opticians.  You can even order using SMS text.  (What a wonderful world we live in now.)  Why would we ever need to leave our house again?!

How are you taking advantage of this heatwave to enjoy yourself to the max?  Comment below, I’d love to know!

This post is in collaboration with Vision Direct.  All views expressed here are my own honest opinions.

4 SIMPLE WAYS TO FIND YOUR OWN UNIQUE FASHION STYLE

4 SIMPLE WAYS TO FIND YOUR OWN UNIQUE FASHION STYLE

How can you be truly authentic in this day and age?  When we’re constantly bombarded with pictures and videos telling us what to buy, what to wear and how we should BE (Instagram, I’m looking at you).

I remember when I was a teenager, I felt so lost and had no idea what my identity was.  I saw all the girls around me dressing in cool and expensive sporty clothes but I didn’t have enough money to buy any.  Also, deep down, I knew I wasn’t that interested in what they were wearing anyway (McKenzie hoodies? No thanks!)  I took Fashion & Textiles classes at school and used those practical lessons to design and sew the kind of clothes I wanted to wear (smart eh? Two birds with one stone and all.)

When university came around, I found myself experimenting with mainstream fashion in an attempt to fit in.  But I still didn’t feel like me.  It wasn’t until I subconsciously started doing the things that I’m about to share with you, that I realised what my real fashion style was.

And the thing is, many would say that fashion is not really an important issue.  Or that there are more important things to be concerned about in the world.  But I genuinely believe that the way you dress can change the way you think and feel about yourself.  Which in turn boosts your confidence and overall mood.

So how can you find your own unique sense of style?  Read on to find out.

    1. STOP LIVING IN YOUR COMFORT ZONE

What I’ve found mostly with the girls that have told me that I’ve inspired them to dress in their own unique style, is that almost all of them were buying and wearing clothes that they deemed easy and fail safe.  By this, I mean mostly black-coloured clothing.  Now I’m not saying there’s anything wrong with dressing in head to toe black, but is that really what you want?  I own maybe 1-2 black clothing items in my wardrobe because the colour does not appeal to me.  To me, it’s not a challenge because black is easy to match with black.  It doesn’t make you stand out and it’s easy.  Simply put, black just doesn’t allow me to express my creative side.

    2. STOP CARING WHAT OTHER PEOPLE THINK

So many of us live in constant fear of what other people will think.  And the thing is, our time on Earth is so short.  And life is so precious!  Why waste it on other people?  I say be selfish in this and dress how you truly want to dress.  Removing all thoughts of what people will think or what they might say to you.  The only person you need to live with every day, is yourself.  So I say take care of number 1 first.

    3. DETOX AND THINK ABOUT WHAT YOU REALLY WANT

Like I said earlier, it’s seriously so easy for us to get sucked into the latest fads and trends and start jumping on those bandwagons.  But before you do, think for yourself : “do I truly want to wear this, or am I just buying it because of the hype?”

    4. DON’T TRY TO BE SOMEONE THAT YOU’RE NOT

Above all else, stay true to yourself and don’t feel pressured by others or by what’s trending.  Heck, I say set your own trends!  You can lie to everyone else, but you can’t lie to yourself.  Wear things that you truly like and that make you feel good.  Don’t try to dress a certain way in order to pretend to be a certain type of person.

So there you have it.  My 4 ways of finding your unique sense of style.  Once you’ve nailed your personal style, shopping online and in-store will be a breeze.  You’ll be able to filter out the things you like from the things you hate immediately.  When I walk into stores, I can straight away pick out the things I think I’ll like without spending hours browsing.  And as soon as I put something on, I can immediately tell myself “heck yes!” or “heck no”.  Also, if it’s a maybe, then it’s usually a no too!

I hope that helped.  Let me know in the comments which tip was your favourite, or if you have any tips of your own to share!

A TRUE ORIGINAL FESTIVAL EDIT PARTY – HOSTED BY DISNEY #MICKEY90

A TRUE ORIGINAL FESTIVAL EDIT PARTY – HOSTED BY DISNEY #MICKEY90

A few weeks ago, I was lucky enough to be invited to Disney’s “A True Original Festival Edit” party to celebrate Mickey Mouse’s 90th birthday!  I was truly honoured as I know it is rare for Disney to throw events like this.  I have never really taken my blog or Instagram seriously until now so this was the first time I was invited to an event like this.  I had no idea what to expect and was nervous about what to wear!  I had some pink Minnie Mouse ears from a trip to Tokyo DisneySea (similar here and here), so I decided to wear those, along with my Liz Lisa striped blue suspender skirt (similar here and here), Liz Lisa white blouse and Penderie blue nautical cardigan (similar here and here).  I paired this outfit with my trusty Coast nude suede pointed court shoes (similar here and here).

Like I said, it was my first time attending a blogger/influencer event, so I was quite nervous.  The email stated that the event would be held at a location in central London, with the entrance to the event via a record store (sorry, what?!)  Of course, I looked up the location on GoogleMaps and found that it genuinely was a record store.  I decided to proceed with caution.

On the day, I arrived 5 minutes early and walked into the record store.  Everyone there looked like they were there to buy records (no surprise there!).  I was just about to approach a sales assistant when I noticed two ladies standing at the back of the store in front of some double doors, clutching clipboards and wearing headsets.  I went over and turns out, the event was being held in the basement of the record store!  Let’s be honest, I was pinching myself at the first instance of even being invited.  So in the back of my mind, I have to admit, I was slightly concerned about whether I’d been scammed or if I was going to be abducted inside some abandoned warehouse… (ahem)

The basement was quite big and spacious and as soon as I entered, I saw so many different props and Instagrammable spots!  This included a makeup counter doing glitter makeup and temporary Disney tattoos, a station for creating your own Mickey Mouse ears, a food truck (gimme all the food!), deckchairs and more.  I bumped into two lovely girls in the queue for the cloakroom and they were just lovely!  We just clicked and ended up spending the whole evening together.

Okay, so let’s not hide the fact that I was extremely excited about this food truck.  There were so many yummy choices on offer (plus dessert!).  I ended up trying one of each dish!  My favourite was the lobster mac’n’cheese.  I need that in my belly again right now!

After filling my tummy with 3 main courses and washing it all down with some champagne, we decided to get some more photos of the beautiful spots around the basement.

I met some other very talented Instagrammers and bloggers too and we all had such a blast!  There was even a panel talk about Mickey and Minnie and the fact that they are true icons and original influencers in their own right!  Fun fact: I learnt on the night that when Mickey and Minnie make an appearance at parties or events, they don’t appear anywhere else in the world!  This is to maintain the magic for children.  How sweet is that!  When I got my photo taken with Mickey and Minnie, they were both so cute!  Minnie was excited and Mickey was straightening up his jacket to look smart for the photo (I can’t even!)  I just can’t believe Mickey Mouse will be 90 years old already this year.  Mickey and Minnie were so much a part of my childhood that I think I’ve just frozen them in time in my mind.

To celebrate Mickey’s 90th, Disney have collaborated with so many designers and brands from H&M to Loungefly and Primark.  We got to preview the entire range of collections that will be released into stores and let me tell you – it’s gorgeous and I want it all!

I didn’t expect it to be such a late night, but I didn’t get home until just before midnight (made it Cinderella!).  Disney even gifted everyone a great big bag of Disney-themed goodies which I am so grateful for and I LOVE everything inside it.

This is a paid collaboration with Disney but, as always, all opinions are my own.
